The ESRF and ILL are delighted to be able to organise the first on-site Plenary Event of the InnovaXN programme
Plenary Events are important moments for InnovaXN, bringing together all students and supervisors from ESRF, ILL and our partners in industry and universities, thus enabling face-to-face cross-disciplinary discussions and networking amongst participants.
A crucial part of the two-day programme of our first plenary event consists of a few selected talks from our industry partners, highlighting the role of research and innovation in industry, and particularly the role of facilities like the ESRF and ILL.
With InnovaXN, the ESRF and the ILL, Europe’s world-leading synchrotron X-ray and neutron research infrastructures, in collaboration with the University Grenoble Alpes (UGA) train 40 early stage researchers, by bringing state-of-the-art synchrotron X-ray and neutron analytical capabilities, within an international scientific and cultural hub, as well as organising dedicated skills training in science and transferrable skills (such as IPR, knowledge transfer, entrepreneurship and business skills).
The industrial partners bring challenging pre-competitive research needs, harvested through an open ideation and co-design process for research projects and mobility at the collaborating industrial companies. The industry partner are strongly involved at all stages of the project, joining supervisory meetings, and providing transnational mobility opportunities and training in research in a commercial environment. Each student is expected to spend at least three months at the site of the industry partner for their project.
The InnovaXN programme duration is 60 months and comprise two calls, each recruiting 20 students. Most students work on projects using both synchrotron X-rays and neutrons, providing valuable interdisciplinary research and exploiting the natural ESRF and ILL complementarity for innovation.
