The ESRF-ENRICH OASYS SCHOOL (EOS26) provides a comprehensive, hands-on introduction to the design, modelling, ray-tracing simulation and optimisation of X-ray optical systems.
The venue of the school is the ESRF, 71 Avenue des Martyrs, Grenoble (France) and the dates May 20-22 2026.
The attendees will gain experience using simulation tools inside OASYS, a powerful simulation environment, alongside analytical calculations to characterize and optimize beamline components.
EOS26 is organised in the framework of the COST Action CA24131-ENRICH: European Network for radiation-detection based Research and Innovation addressing increasing societal CHallenges.
Lectures and Practicals
-
Lectures on fundamentals and advanced aspects of optical system design for X-rays: theory, instrumentation, multi-technique coupling, data processing.
-
Components – mirrors, crystals, lenses, gratings and other key optical elements
Who should attend
The School is open to PhD students, post-doctoral researchers, early-career & confirmed scientists, and industrial professionals interested in optics design for X-rays, including synchrotron and XFEL beamlines.
Whether you are new to optics modelling or looking to enhance your expertise, this interactive training will offer valuable insights, practical techniques, and expert guidance to help you advance your work in X-ray optics using software design specifically developed for X-ray instrumentation.

Fees, Participation, Pre-Registration
Registration is free.
The School is co-organised by the EU COST-ENRICH project, that will fully cover the cost of 15 participants. The total number of places is limited to 26.
If you wish to attend the school, this is the procedure:
-
pre-register in this site https://indico.esrf.fr/event/241/registrations/163/ indicating
-
your personal data
-
if you would like to reserve a room at the ESRF guesthouse (bedroom with private bathroom with a rate more interesting than city hotels)
- If you apply for the COST‑ENRICH grant, you will be given priority for registration (the grant is open to all applicants). Everyone is eligible for this grant If applying, you should:
-
include a short CV
-
indicate why you are interested in participating
-
be a member of the COST-ENRICH project (you can join it after acceptance)
-
give a rough estimation of the traveling cost (flight, train) to Grenoble
-
-
- in March you will be informed if your candidature is accepted and validated, and if you have been selected for travelling support by the COST-ENRICH (15 grants available from a total of 26 attendees). If selected, you will receive an invitation from COST-ENRICH with instructions and a link to complete the final registration.
