This talk will present the Extensible Workflow System (EWOKS) used to automate online data processing for experiments at the ESRF and make data processing more reproducible and traceable in accordance with the FAIR principles (Findability, Accessibility, Interoperability, and Reusability of data). To ensure the longevity of workflows and their maintenance, EWOKS has been designed as a meta workflow system. A meta-workflow system is capable of supporting multiple workflow engines through its flexible architecture and implementation. This design choice ensures that EWOKS workflows are as independent as possible from a specific workflow engine used for their creation, editing, execution and automation for online data processing.
